02 · Carbide end mills supplier

Carbide end mills picked by the metal you cut, and inserts matched to the body you already own.

Solid carbide end mills and indexable milling inserts for CNC shops across the United States. End mills are priced per piece with box pricing on 5 or more; inserts per box of 10. All quoted on inquiry, typical lead 1 to 5 business days. No regrinds sold as new.

Solid carbide end mills

Aluminium wants room for chips. That means 3 flutes, a polished flute face and either no coating or ZrN, because aluminium sticks to titanium-based coatings and welds itself to the edge. Steel wants the opposite: 4 or 5 flutes for a stronger core and more edges sharing the load, and an AlTiN or TiAlN coating that forms an oxide layer as it heats. Stainless and titanium go to AlCrN or a high-aluminium AlTiN with a variable helix to kill chatter.

Tell us the material, the diameter and the length of cut you need, and whether you are slotting or side milling at a light radial step. Those four facts pick the tool. We supply from 1/16 in to 1 in and metric equivalents. Every box says whether the tool is new or reground. We will sell a regrind if you ask for one, at a regrind price, marked as a regrind. We will never slip one in as new, because its diameter is smaller and your offsets need to know.

Coatings by material

The coating is chosen by what you cut.

Wrong coating on the right geometry fails early, usually by built-up edge in aluminium or by crater wear in steel.

SFM figures match the defaults in the cut-load calculator. They are starting points; the maker's chart for the exact tool wins.

Clean the pocket before you seat a new edge. A chip under an insert breaks it.

Indexable milling inserts

Indexable milling inserts get matched by the full ISO code and the grade, to the cutter body already on your spindle. Not by shape. A square insert that is 0.2 mm thicker will seat, clamp and then sit proud of every other edge in the body, and it takes the whole load until it breaks.

Read the code off the old box. If the box is gone, the body usually carries the insert family on its side, and the pocket gives us shape, size and thickness. Grade is the half people skip. A P-grade for steel in a stainless job runs, but it runs a third of the edge life. Tell us the material and we match grade and chip breaker to it. Inserts come in boxes of 10; mixed grades in one box are not something we do.

After the code comes the maker's grade, for example a P25 carbide with PVD coating. Two makers' inserts with the same ISO code will fit the same pocket. They will not always cut the same.

How an order runs

Tell us the material. The tool follows.

  1. Send material, diameter, length of cut and operation, or the insert code off the old box.
  2. We reply the same working day where we can, with part number, coating or grade, typical lead time and price basis.
  3. You confirm quantity. Five or more end mills of one size moves you to box pricing.
  4. It ships. Typical lead 1 to 5 business days for standard sizes; long reach and odd grades take longer and the reply says so.

Straight answers

Before you order cutters.

My end mills keep chipping. Is it the tool?

Usually it is runout. Check the holder and collet with an indicator first. On a 1/4 in carbide tool, 0.001 in of runout puts nearly all the load on one flute. See toolholding for collets with a stated class.

Will a bigger cutter stall my machine?

Maybe. Put the numbers into the spindle horsepower calculator before you buy a 3 in face mill for a 10 hp machine. It gives the required horsepower from your depth, width and feed.

Who should not buy cutters here?

Anyone needing special form tools ground to a print. That is a grinding shop's work and we will tell you so. Also anyone buying hundreds of one catalogue number at the lowest possible price per piece; go direct to the maker on volume.
